About the Symposium

Countdown to Symposium!

Location: The symposium will be held at the prestigious Royal Northern College of Music
124 Oxford Road, Manchester, UK M13 9RD

July 15 – 18, 2027

We’re thrilled to be bringing PAMA’s 2027 International Symposium to the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, UK. It will be our first-ever symposium hosted at a conservatory — a place where performing artists, educators, and performance health researchers already work side by side every day — a fitting home for next year’s theme.
That same intersection is one PAMA has always worked to bridge — bringing together the diverse professional community we represent, all united by a shared commitment to the health and success of performing artists. Yet valuable research findings too often stay within academic circles, never reaching the people best positioned to put them into practice. Next year’s symposium theme puts that gap at the center of the conversation.
Knowledge translation asks a simple but often overlooked question: does this research actually reach the people it’s meant to serve, in a way that makes clear why it matters to them? For performing arts medicine, that means designing research around the real-world demands performers face, and communicating findings in ways performers can absorb, make sense of, and carry into their own understanding, practice, or career. It’s about keeping performers at the center of everything we do and carrying that focus with us well beyond the symposium itself.
For PAMA’s 2027 Symposium we are asking every presenter — whether submitting a talk, poster, or workshop — to speak directly to how their work translates into real-world value for performers. Here’s where it gets exciting: alongside your standard abstract, you’ll be asked to complete a short new section — a Performer Relevance Statement — a chance to make the case, in plain language, for who this work matters to and what it might mean for their understanding, practice, or career. We can’t wait to see submissions that don’t just advance the science, but tell a compelling, accessible story about their relevance to the performers, educators, and practitioners in the room.
Know a keynote who should be in Manchester?
Whether it’s someone in your own network or simply a voice you think this community needs to hear — we want your suggestions, for Manchester or a future symposium. Performers, experts, rising names in the field — if you know someone who’d be awesome, we want to hear about it.
Send your ideas to the co-chairs kat@musiciansclinicsofcanada.com or info@linehilton.com
We look forward to welcoming you to Manchester for what promises to be an unforgettable symposium.
