Looking Back to Move Forward: Assessing Prior Fitness Levels to Inform Load Management in Performers

Wednesday, July 1 | 8:00 PM ET
Thursday, July 2 | 8:00 AM Singapore Time

“Looking Back to Move Forward: Assessing Prior Fitness Levels to Inform Load Management in Performers” explores how understanding a dancer’s prior training history, baseline fitness, and workload capacity can help optimize performance and reduce injury risk across a conservatory-style training season. Challenging the traditional preseason-only screening model, this presentation highlights the value of end-of-term assessments, performer education, progressive semester “fade-in” strategies, and year-round workload monitoring. Drawing from the work of Tim Gabbett and current sports medicine literature, presenters will examine acute and chronic training load, the role of physical and cognitive load, and practical approaches to supporting healthier, more resilient performers. Attendees will leave with evidence-informed concepts and actionable strategies they can apply within their own training environments and performing arts populations.
