Keynote: D. Andrew Tompkins

Dr. Tompkins is a board certified psychiatrist and Diplomat of the American Board of Addiction Medicine. He is currently an Assistant Professor at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where he has an active clinical practice and has developed a productive line of research at the interface of pain and addiction. His primary research interest is to better understand the experience, measurement, and treatment of pain in persons with past or current substance use disorders – in particular patients on medication-assisted therapy. His other areas of interest are: developing novel medications for the treatment of substance use disorders, the assessment and pathophysiology of opioid withdrawal, and evaluating addiction risk amongst chronic pain patients being considered for opioid therapy.
